Positional Language on a Grid
LEARNING BENEFITS:
·
Speaking
and following spoken directions
·
Learning
one-step direction using positional language (above, under, next to, top corner
and bottom corner)
Instructions:
Show the child
that the flower is in the center of the grid. Talk about the picture and the
position of the object in each card. Make sure you show the action in order to
ensure the child's understanding of the positional word.
Start playing by
choosing any card and reading out the positional language for that picture.
Where necessary help your child to put the object is the right place.
As your child's
comfort and knowledge level increases use more challenging directions.
Challenge your
child by adding right/left to the corner instruction card, for example, by
putting the bunny on the top right hand corner.
Continue with the
instructions until all the objects are on the grid. Young children naturally
enjoy this type of game and will also take pleasure in giving directions. Now
let them give you clues using positional language so you can put the objects on
the grid.
